I'm begging... remove the word verification!!!!!!!

Happy Monday friends!

Have lots to talk about and catch up on but I have a favor to ask....

Please friends... please... I am begging you to remove the "prove your not a robot" thing off your blog. I promise... you don't need it.

It is a default blogger setting so unless you have turned it off... I bet you have it.

Blogger changed the look of it recently... the words are longer, there are two now and they are much much much much harder to read and I am tired of not being able to read it and spending minutes trying to leave comments because I can't figure out what in the world it says. My frustration level with the new word verification is through the roof and I will soon enough just stop commenting on blogs that have it.

****Added based on comments -And just read the comments below, I'm not the only one who won't be commenting on WV blogs.

In the three years I have been blogging a Spam Robot has never gotten through. Not to mention I have only ever gotten 5 spam and they have all been caught by blogger and dumped into my spam folder.  And I am a relitively high traffic site with my email available right there on the right for bots to steal.

You just don't need the word verification!

*****Added in response to comments - No. I don't use comment moderation either. As you post a comment to go to my blog it goes. I do not approve them. And STILL a spam has never made it through! :)

Please Please Please remove this unnecessary feature from your blog and also repost this asking your fellow bloggers to remove it as well. You will lose comment's if you keep it there.

For instructions on how to remove it... plus how to remove other annoying features from your blog... go here:

http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/2010/11/making-your-blog-more-communication.html

or just follow these steps

Go to Dashboard
Go to Settings
Go to the Comment Tab
Scroll down to Word Verification
And click NO!
Click Save Settings
Make your followers happy! Yay!

Until next time...

Oh Carmen...I hate it too! Do I have it on my blog? (I don't think so). Since it's changed there have been a couple times where I have given up trying to leave a comment. Thanks for posting about this.. Hugs, Traci

It is true that it is totally unnecessary. If you have your comments set to approve comments before they are published, Google catches all spam. I get quite a bit of spam, since my email address is available over the internet, and I have never had spam get through.
I have noticed that the security words are getting increasingly longer and harder to read.

I don't have it set on my blog and I am just going to stop commenting on those that have it for the simple reason it takes forever to try to comment! you can't read the words half the time so they give you a new set of words, UGH, who has time for it! Hope you have a great day and how is the eyesight coming along??

Oh yes, I agree with you. I think the word verification is too time consuming and you can't read it.
I don't have it on mine because of that. So everyone, please remove it from your blog.

Turned it off for you Carmen :) I had it on because there was a period a year or so ago when I was getting really odd comments that had nothing to do with my blog and they were creeping me out.

Hi, Carmen:
If you have moderation set you don't have to worry, that's true. It's enough really, to catch any spam or pesky comments.
Hugs,
Susan

I am embarrassed. I thought mine had been removed until a friend told me it hadn't. It is now. I do agree with all of you, if you have retype it 3-4 times I just want to forget it.I love leaving comments as well as receiving them, but that was driving me crazy!

Carmen I can't read them half the time which is taking me longer to comment these days

Amen Sister....I've given up on most that have it. My eyes are challenged enough, and I never get the words right now that they've changed the format. I've never had it on my blog, nor do I use moderation, and have only had a few spam comments get through, which I promptly deleted. No big deal. I actually have a "word verification free blog" button on my blog sidebar....It's a button anyone can get from Beatrice Banks at: http://beatricebanks.blogspot.com/2011/03/cute-as-button.html

Happy Monday! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

We ARE NOT publishing trade secrets or nuclear weapons wherabouts here! Let go of all the paranoia! Let us comment and get on to the next post. That's why it takes so stinkin' long to get through a blog roll!
I agree--we should boycott those with WV!
Remember, it wasn't so long ago we both published that post about reader friendly blogging?

I agree with you about the double words and I have to keep clicking for a new one and I am about to just quit leaving comments on blogs that have it. I do have to approve my comments and will keep it that way. I do get a lot of spam and did have someone leave me a virus a few years ago. I don't mind commenting on blogs that have to be approved but...the words and have to be approved..that is crazy. Of course it isn't that bad for me since I get very few comments and always from the same sweet bloggers. I have come to the conclusion that I must have a VERY BORING blog

Thanks so much Carmen...I have NEVER used it...I figure if there is spam it will catch it and if not I check my comments and if there is a nasty one on there I delete it...quite simple.
I guess the verification really doesn't do much so why have it.
I pray everyone will remove it too.

Hi Carmen, I haven't set up word verification mostly because it's a little time consuming. And I haven't experienced much problems really.
Have a great day!

I removed mine this afternoon. I had NO idea it was even turned on. I read Felcia's post earlier and checked mine, UGGH.

I dont like it either. Most of the time I am viewing blogs using an ipod. The screen is little & I have trouble seeing any way. One word was enough but now two. It takes to long & then some of my comments never showed up. I just gave up & now pretty much stopped commenting. I will check my own blog. I dont think I have it but I would not want to miss a friendly comment. Thanks. Blessings!

I agree, I struggle with the words and usually end up having to try twice. Sometimes I just pass by because of it.

I didn't hate the old verification, but it was a pain. I hate this new verification. You are right-it was turned on in my blog. I turned it off. Never thought about it.

Preach it sister!!!! I HATE those word verifications. I give up if I can't get it right the first time. They are impossible to decipher. I bet pharmacists never have a problem figuring them out:)

Thank you for bringing that to my attention!!! I thought I had the box checked "No" but boy was I wrong. Fixed that problem :) I hate that dang word verfication also.

TFS this. I so agree - it takes 3-4 tries most times to get it right. Takes time most of us don't have.

Hi Carmen,
I've been having a hard time reading it too. It sometimes take me a few times to get it right. I don't think I have that on my Wordpress blog. I've looked at all my settings and I can't see that I have it.
hugs,
Cindy

Hi Carmen, I love your post today! Here I thought I was the only one here having the problem with reading those verification words.I was beginning to think I was going blind or something..and becoming more and more frustrated trying to leave a comment. So good to it's not my eyes and I am among many with the same frustration. Thank you sweet friend for saying it all!!! Big Hugs Mary
PS. I will gladly repost this on my blog.

Hi, Carmen,
I agree with you, it is so aggravating! I tried to follow your instructions to delete it, and I don't think I have it on my blog, "think" being the operative word. Maybe you could check my blog for me and leave me a comment about whether I have it?
Thanks,
Melinda

I agree with the rest of you I wont even leave a comment if I have to type all those words out and half the time can not even make out what it is!!!

Kathy Felsted Usher said...

I wrote a post about this the other day too after it hit my blog. I can't read them at all. By the way, if you have already transitioned to the new platform you won't find your word verification. You have to go back to the old format to turn it off. Also, I went over to Blogger Help and posted my complaint and have advised everyone else to do this too so they know it is really affecting blogger interactions. As some have said, they don't even know this is turned on for their blogs.

Raymond Homestead said...

I don't like it either. I can never read what it says and then it's really bad when you have to type 2 words.
